Blogs v. Websites

Traditional webpages have revolutionized learning for students. Sites such as Wikipedia, CNN, Fox News, and YouTube allow information to be accessed at high speeds. Websites are vital in that a surplus of information is at the disposal of students. However, websites often provide no outlet for the learners to reflect upon issues. This void of traditional websites led to the creation of blogs.

Blogs give individuals the opportunity to reflect upon topics in an informal or formal manner. This allows learners to analyze, evaluate, apply, and generally function in the higher levels of blooms taxonomy, rather than simply swallowing the information found on websites. Blogs can be inserted into RSS reader pages so that users can have a one stop location to respond to the comments of their peers. This has been a breakthrough in education. With blogs, students have the potential to respond to one another about topics, and aide each other on assignments via the internet. The security measures that accustom blogs allow for students to safely communicate with one another about the information that is being received from traditional websites.

Although different mediums, blogs and traditional websites work in conjunction to create valuable learning opportunities. Websites provide constant rich information, while blogs grant students a forum with which to analyze information and forge beliefs.
